"You grow with the game; The game grows with you.”
It all started in 1989 when Frank (Jock) Drysdale developed Alzheimer’s disease, a brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills. As a man blessed with a family of six children and 13 grandchildren, who had served society as a fulfilled chaplain, minister, and high school teacher, Jock was not about to surrender his life and intellect to the disease unchallenged. He transformed his affliction into what he called his “Gift from God”.
Numero was born of Jock’s desire to engage with his grandchildren every day while exercising his brain. He invented Numero Mental Maths Game in 1993, published it in 1994, and gifted it to the Alzheimer’s WA not-for-profit association in 1995 to facilitate brain rehabilitation in those who need it most.
Fast forward to 2023. In the past 30 years, Numero has been established in primary schools in Western Australia as the fun way to learn mathematics, and is growing in popularity in high schools. The iconic annual Numero Challenge, launched in 1997, now runs across several weeks and engages more than 1,200 students and teachers in fun, friendly, and noisy competition.
Today, the product brand of Numero is instantly recognisable in the education industry, as is their Director and driver Julie Richards (dubbed “the Numero lady”) who continues to build
her father’s extraordinary legacy supported by her dedicated Co-Director/husband Jeff and sons Kieran and Joshua.
